Horse - Lucas (MWH)

Ben has been working with the 8 year old Military Working Horse,  Lucas, since he was posted to be an instructor at the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray. Usually used as a training horse for military personnel to learn to ride on, Lucas has also been used in Remembrance Day parades in the local area.

Whilst not the easiest horse on the ground he is a star in the ring and this pair have had an amazing 2017. They were on the winning team at Royal Windsor for Services  Showjumping,  won the top prize at the Royal Tournament, were picked for the UK Armed Forces Equestrian Team late last year and topped off the success with a fantastic win at Olympia in the Service Showjumping Class 2017! Definitely a pair to watch in 2018.

Ben, who trained as a jockey before joining the Army, was also picked to ride in the Pertemps Charity Willberry Charity Derby at Cheltenham in 2017 and rode home to victory on a horse appropriately name Three Star General for Somerset Trainer, David Pipe. The race was being run to raise money for The Bob Champion Cancer Trust and Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony Charity, and Ben, himself having suffered cancer, was joined on the podium by his daughter, Grace, who is currently fighting leukaemia
